Our story began in 1939 in Des Moines, Iowa, when the state Farm Bureau founded Iowa Farm Mutual Insurance Company to meet the unique liability insurance needs of farmers. As the company grew, services including auto insurance, home and property insurance, and life insurance were added. Today, our agents build relationships with people from all walks of life to help them protect what matters most and prepare for the future. We’re 1,600 employees and 4,000 field associates strong, and when your life twists and turns, you can depend on your local Farm Bureau agent to be there for you, providing the knowledge and experience to make insurance simple.

Farm Bureau Mutual Holding Company includes two property-casualty underwriting companies: Farm Bureau Property and Casualty Insurance Company and Western Agricultural Insurance Company.

Farm Bureau Property and Casualty Insurance Company (FBPCIC) – Formerly known as Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company, reorganized and renamed in 2010. The company celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2014, and offers auto, home and farm insurance products/services to individuals and small businesses in eight Western and Midwestern states.

Western Agricultural Insurance Company offers property-casualty insurance products and services – including certain specialty products – in select states.

Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company began serving Farm Bureau members in 1945. Originally operating under the name of Farm Bureau Life, the Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company offers a variety of term, whole and universal life insurance products, as well as fixed and variable annuity products.

Financial strength ratings represent the opinions of rating agencies regarding the ability of an insurance company to meet its financial obligations to policyholders and contract holders. Our companies have been rated by A.M. Best Company, Inc. (“A.M. Best”)1 for more than 50 years and have consistently earned Excellent ratings.

A.M. Best ratings for insurance companies range from “A++” to “S.” A.M. Best indicates that A and A- (Excellent) ratings are assigned to those companies that, in A.M. Best’s opinion, have an excellent ability to meet their ongoing obligations to policyholders. Farm Bureau Property & Casualty Group is among 55 insurers recognized by A.M. Best Review for consistently maintaining an A.M. Best Rating of A or higher for the past 50 years, even through extreme weather and challenging economic times.
