Farm Bureau Financial Services Employees Donate 142,250 Meals for Those in Need
12/22/2020 12:00:00 AM
For a company rooted in agriculture, it comes as no surprise that the call to feed hungry Americans this holiday season was met with a resounding yes from its employees. This holiday season, Farm Bureau Financial Services will make a donation of $14,250 to Feeding America. That’s the equivalent of 142,250 meals. “Like so many companies, the holidays are looking a little different for us this year,“ said CEO Dan Pitcher. “We had to pivot. So in lieu of a holiday party for our employees, we offered them the opportunity to choose from several holiday gift options – one of which was the opportunity to pay their gift forward by donating to Feeding America.” And pay it forward they did, resulting in a donation of $7,125. The company decided to match the donation, doubling the dollars and impact. “It’s in my nature to make sure everyone is well fed,” said Kim Mook, Sr. personal lines underwriter. “I love to cook. I also feel strongly about giving back when I can. When I saw this option, it seemed like the perfect way to make a difference in someone’s life.” Vice President of Health Insurance Services Steve Kammeyer said, “While we certainly all missed the chance to celebrate the holiday together with our coworkers, the company provided an outstanding opportunity for us to celebrate in a different, but very meaningful, way.By providing the gift of food to those experiencing hunger or food insecurity, we are making the holiday brighter for many. It really is greater to give than to receive and being able to do that collectively, and make a difference for so many, is a great way to share the holiday spirit with others.” According to Feeding America, nearly 50 million people across the country will feel the impact of food insecurity this holiday season. That is an increase from 35 million in 2019. “Giving to others lifts your spirit,” said VP Human Resources Karen Rieck. “And it restores your faith to see there is still a fundamental attitude of generosity and kindness that prevails.”
