Beyond A Salary: Helping Employees Build Their Financial Futures

Apr 1, 2021 2 min read

Your financial situation is the foundation upon which you build your dreams for the future. Of course, your job – and your salary – is an important part of that. But at Farm Bureau Financial Services, we understand that there are so many other ways we can help you reach your dreams.

Our care for our employees goes deep; we understand that people do their best work when they are supported in all aspects of their lives. Our employees are given the tools they need to succeed not only at work, but also to handle the various challenges they may face in their personal lives. That’s why we provide resources for each spoke of the wellness wheel.

Wellness Wheel

Let’s Talk About Financial Wellness

The financial wellness spoke on the wheel is all about managing your money in a way that is best for you both now and in the future. Among other things, this includes budgeting, managing debt and saving for long-term goals.

According to a 2021 CreditWise survey, 73% of Americans say finances are the number one stressor in their lives. This stress oftentimes spills over and impacts other facets of life, such as physical health, emotional well-being, intellectual pursuits and relationships. At Farm Bureau, we understand that we can help alleviate financial stress in our employees’ lives in ways that go beyond providing a salary.

Providing A Strong Foundation

Employees at Farm Bureau Financial Services have access to valuable benefits that help improve their financial situation and protect their well-being, such as a company-provided flexible spending account (FSA) to help manage healthcare costs, a variety of insurance options to provide peace of mind and a 401(k) to save for their future.

Going Beyond the Basics

But there’s more. Farm Bureau goes beyond to offer employees financial resources, guidance and support.

A financial wellness newsletter shares tips and calls out resources, such as tools that make saving or investing easier. In addition, all employees have access to online, on-demand financial wellness courses like “Long-term Care”, “Social Security” and “Ten Minutes to Managing Personal Finances” to help them learn about concepts and develop strategies to improve their financial situation. They can also participate in wellness challenges that motivate them to take action toward their goals.

Our employees also have access to the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), which provides confidential support and resources on a broad range of topics, including financial matters. Employees are able to meet with a professional about things like saving for college, dealing with debt, planning for retirement or creating an estate plan.

If an employee wants to dig deeper and work with a professional financial advisor to build a holistic financial plan, they can connect with a Farm Bureau Wealth Management Advisor (WMA).

Wealth Management Advisors

Financial advisors who are looking for the support of a large company with the flexibility of owning their own business have found a home at Farm Bureau Wealth Management. Kara Goodknight, a WMA in Oklahoma, had this to say: “We have a lot of support. I have a Regional Manager. I know his manager. We have a vice-president that’s on zoom calls with us that does a lot of monthly updates. And so it’s definitely still a small company feel, but we’re getting the benefits of a large company.” According to Scott Pilchard, a WMA in Arizona, “The support I receive as a Wealth Management Advisor has been second to none, very unique in my experience.”
