What Is a Digital Insurance Card?

Oct 6, 2025 1 min read

Just about anything in your wallet can be digital these days – you can access your credit and debit cards, event tickets and membership passes through a virtual wallet. If you’re looking for ways to further streamline what you have to carry with you, consider a digital insurance card.

Just like paper versions, digital insurance cards include your policy information and can be used in place of an auto insurance paper card in all states except New Mexico. If you get into a fender bender or need to provide proof of insurance at the DMV, all you have to do is pull out your digital insurance card and you’ll be set.

How to Get a Digital Insurance Card

Different carriers have different processes for accessing your digital insurance cards. At Farm Bureau Financial Services, all you have to do is use the FBFS app (available in Google Play or the Apple App Store). Once you create an account, you’ll be able to log-in and have access to your information at the tips of your fingers. You can access your account from a mobile or desktop device using the same login information.

Bonus: Because everyone with Farm Bureau Financial Services’ home or auto insurance is also a member of their state Farm Bureau organization, your app includes things like a claims tracker, online bill pay and access to the discounts you receive through membership in Farm Bureau.

How to Use a Digital Insurance Card

You can use your digital insurance card whenever proof of insurance is required. For example, you may need to provide your auto insurance information at the DMV or a car dealership. In the case of a car accident, you can use your digital insurance card to exchange information with other drivers and provide proof of insurance to the police, if they are involved.

Make Sure You Have the Coverage You Need

Whether you’re ready for a digital card or prefer a printed copy, it’s important to be protected against the unexpected. Reach out to Farm Bureau to make sure your car has the auto insurance coverage you need.
