Insuring What’s In Your Car

It takes less than 30 seconds to smash a car window and grab your iPad, laptop or cell phone from the front seat. But did you know that while auto theft and vandalism are typically covered by your auto insurance, certain electronic devices like your iPad and GPS unit may not be covered by your auto policy if stolen from your car or damaged in an accident?

Portable devices that are battery-powered and not permanently wired into your car, like your iPad, are generally not covered by auto insurance. A homeowner’s policy or renter’s insurance may provide coverage for theft or damage but only up to certain limits – usually $1,000 or less.

If you routinely keep electronic gadgets like an iPad, GPS device or laptop in your car, ask your Farm Bureau agent about adding optional coverage to your auto insurance, which can provide a higher level of protection for high-priced electronics.
